Blythburgh Water Tower

Scaffolding was required at the top of the tower as there was a requirement to reseal the roof. It was our job to provide a safe working platform as there was no adequate hand rail around the perimeter of the roof.

Scaffolding was erected to a bespoke design using traditional tube and fitting and a HAKI staircase was erected for access to the top.

Working at height safely, the water tower was over 30 metres high so the weather conditions were monitored daily to ensure safe working. There were a number of days where it was unsafe to work due to adverse weather conditions.

The phone masts were a challenge on this project because they had to be switched off whilst working in close proximity, so communication with the client and communications company were crucial to ensure the safety of our team. We also had to ensure adequate labour was allocated on site whilst the masts were switched off, to reduce their downtime and ultimately ensuring the project was delivered on time.

There was also a challenge that the leg loads were too high, so the design was amended last minute to provide additional support on the leg loads. This required a fast turnaround, the sole boards were removed and replaced with sleepers to spread the load.
